President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Timor Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao are scheduled to meet Wednesday evening at the Nusa Dua Laguna Resort. The meeting is aimed at enhancing the two countries' bilateral relations on various regional and international issues.
Antara news agency reported, Yudhoyono will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo A.S., State Secretary Hatta Rajasa, Information and Communications Minister Muhammad Nuh, and presidential spokesperson Dino Patti Djalal.
Yudhoyono and Gusmao had previously met on several occasions, particularly when the latter was serving as president of Timor Leste. The two leaders have also signed an historic agreement, the Commission of Truth and Friendship, which has become the basis for new ties between the two countries.
The Commission of Truth and Friendship was set up as a fact- finding mission to look into the violence that occurred just before and after the East Timor referendum on independence in August 1999. Separately, Yudhoyono is also scheduled to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Masahiko Koumura's special representative and the foreign ministers of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
